About: Greenpeace is a non-governmental environmental organisation with offices in over 39 countries.
Greenpeace defend the natural world and promote peace by investigating, exposing and confronting environmental abuse, and championing responsible solutions for our fragile environment.
The Challenge: Whitton Electrical have carried out multiple projects at the Greenpeace UK’s Head Office in Islington. This has included ongoing reactive maintenance and projects such as replacement of the HQ main switchgear.
Our favourite project, however, was being challenged with designing a sustainable office and warehouse solution which seeks to make use of innovative materials and techniques in line with Greenpeace’s ethos of causing minimal disruption to the environment.
Outcomes: Amongst more conventional elements of this project such as updating the main office, warehouse and stores power supply and emergency lighting solutions, we found multiple ways to help Greenpeace innovate and stay true to their core beliefs including:
Bespoke design and installation of custom wooden cable trunking to replace traditional non-sustainable PVC trunking.
Installation of low-energy lighting throughout with automated and wirelessly controlled daylight harvesting.
Heat harvesting and re-distribution from the main server room to public spaces
